About Kathy L. Fortner, Ed. S., LPC, NCC

I am a Nationally Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor with an active mental health counseling practice in Murrells Inlet, SC.  I am originally from West Virginia where I worked in various settings throughout my counseling career, from an educator both in the public and high education disciplines (Marshall University Counseling Department) ; a school counselor; a medical practice manager; a Special Project Director working with the WV Prevention  Resource Center in S. Charleston, WV in collaboration with AHIDTA (Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) through the Office of the National Drug Control Policy; a private practice clinician previously in WV and now in South Carolina.  Through these many experiences and opportunities, I have learned two basic principals.  First, working as a team in  collaboration with other professionals including either the  client or patient in the decision making process truly makes for an improved outcome and second, sharing with others in the various disciplines only promotes a vast resource of not only a library of printed or written materials, but a great system of networking.  Thus, as a South Carolina resident and professional, it is my hope to share with whomever reads my posted material, that everyone gains information that either they can use as a professional, client, or patient to benefit themselves or others.
